His Australian teammate, Mark Webber finished in second place with a final lap of 1m 19.856s. As reported earlier, Red Bull had introduced a new nose for the British GP (dubbed ‘Duck’s beak’ by Vettel) and it seems to have done the trick again.

Ferrari’s Felipe Massa had a good day and climbed to P4 from P11 on the grid with a final lap of 1m 18.927s. His team-mate,Kimi Räikkönen, took P8 with a final lap of 1m 20.715s.

Massa and Williams’ Nico Rosberg had an interesting duel throughout the race – first with Barrichello for P3 and then for P4. With less than two seconds separating the three drivers, Williams took a chance and pitted Rosberg on lap 44. A lap later, Massa went in for his pit stop and came back out on the track in front of Rosberg. Rosberg had to settle for P5 (1m 20.361s). His team-mate, Kazuki Nakajima, finished at P11 with a final lap time of 1m 20.216s.

Pre-race favourite Jenson Button of Brawn GP struggled in the opening laps after being blocked by a slow-starting Jarno Trulli of Toyota and was forced to fall to ninth. Though he managed to drive up the grid, he came up against the spirited driving of Massa and Rosberg and had to settle for P6 (1m 20.289s).

Toyota’s Trulli took P7 (1m 20.091s) with team-mate Timo Glock two places behind at P9 (1m 20.490s).
Force India’s Giancarlo Fisichella came in at P10 (1m 19.802s) – finally, a mid-grid finish for the team. Team-mate Adrian Sutil was in P17 (1m 19.909s) after crashing heavily into the rear tyre of Lewis Hamilton’s McLaren.
Renault’s Nelson Piquet drove off the circuit at one stage but ended with a P12 (1m 19.392s). His team-mate, Fernando Alonso, finished with a lap of 1m 20.741s and took P14.
BMW’s Robert Kubica came in at P13 (1m 19.308s) while team-mate Nick Heidfeld, who was second here at 2008, came in at P15 with a final lap of 1m 19.448s.
McLaren’s Hamilton, last year’s British GP winner, suffered from a punctured tyre after Adrian Sutil crashed heavily into his McLaren’s rear tyre. Hamilton was unharmed and took P16 with a lap of 1m 19.917s. His team-mate Heikki Kovalainen suffered mechanical failure and was forced to retire with 24 laps to go.
Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Buemi took the last spot of P18 (1m 20.236s), while team-mate, Sebastien Bourdais, retired due to engine problems in lap 37.
